Survey Manager

Salary: $35/hr - $50/hr (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant)

Job Description:
Sopris Engineering is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join us in Carbondale, CO as a Surveying Project Manager. This is a rare opportunity to work for a well-established company that values quality work and employee growth. The Surveying Manager will play a critical role in overseeing and managing surveying projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • 10+ years of surveying experience
  • 5+ years of experience in survey department leadership role, including a proven track record of project and survey staff management. Multi-disciplined firm experience (Engineering and Surveying depts.) preferred.
  • Colorado PLS, preferred
  • Proficient in using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS and data collectors as well as a strong knowledge in the use of Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center
  • Strong knowledge of surveying principles, land development, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with clients, team members, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required, enabling the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and work calmly and efficiently under pressure.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in surveying operations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Have a personable and friendly attitude and a strong desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Oversee multiple surveying projects simultaneously, including development applications/plats, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, and as-built surveys. Ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule, while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and guide survey technicians and field personnel. Coordinate and assign tasks, provide training and mentorship, and lead by example to ensure the team's success. Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Client Engagement: Act as the main point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships. Gather project specifications from clients, provide estimates, and communicate updates and progress throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure client satisfaction and address any concerns or requests promptly. Prepare survey proposals and review contracts.
  • Surveying Operations: Conduct field surveys using the latest surveying equipment and techniques. Review and analyze survey data, prepare survey reports, and generate maps and deliverables. Ensure high accuracy and quality control procedures are followed consistently.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with relevant local, state, and federal regulations related to surveying and land development. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and permits.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance, and calibration of surveying equipment. Coordinate repairs or replacements as needed to ensure efficient and accurate surveying operations. Along with ensuring the warranty and software versions are up to date for both hardware and software.


AutoCAD Civil 3D Designer/CAD Manager

Salary: $28/hr - $36/hr (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant)

Job Description:
Sopris Engineering is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join us in Carbondale, CO as a Civil 3D CAD Designer/CAD Manager to support our Civil Engineering Design Team. Typical projects will require the generation of construction plan sets in accordance with design and drafting standards of various review agencies. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Accomplished at AutoCAD Civil 3D and using the software to create surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors and pipe networks
  • Land development design experience and skills for large and small scale grading, drainage, roadway and utility design
  • Ability to develop, organize and maintain Construction Documents and Plan Exhibits
  • High attention to detail, organization and time management
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and details
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team to successfully deliver projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently when needed and be self-motivated
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Have a personable and friendly attitude and a strong desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project startup, modeling assistance, and annotation of drawings
  • Redline edits and corrections
  • Process CAD files provided by others so they can be used for base mapping and design purposes
  • Work with Engineers to design and layout a project upon receiving sufficient design information
  • Prepare complete sets of drawings using CAD/Civil 3D, including sheet setup, plans, profiles, notes and details
  • Manage digital files per company standards to include email attachments received from outside consultants
  • Produce plans that conform to review agencies requirements and company design and drafting standards
  • Generate plans from scratch as well as handling redlines from Design Engineers and Project Managers
  • Assist designers with the use of Civil 3D and provide periodic training sessions to increase knowledge to other employees

Entry Level AutoCAD Civil 3D Tech

Salary: $25/hr - $30/hr (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant)

Job Description:
Sopris Engineering is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join us in Carbondale, CO as an Entry Level Civil 3D Draft Tech. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications however we are willing to train the right candidate:

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D through education or work experience
  • An interest in drafting, civil engineering and/or land surveying
  • High attention to detail, organization and time management
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently when needed and be self-motivated
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Have a personable and friendly attitude and a strong desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Design Engineers, Project Managers and our Survey team with producing plans, exhibits and surveys using Civil 3D software
  • Redline edits and corrections to plan sets
  • With the assistance of design engineer, project manager and/or survey manager produce plans that conform to review agencies requirements and company design and drafting standards
